Being responsible for a pet requires commitment and is similar to having children, the pet depends on the owner for all their needs-food and shelter, exercise, and veterinary care. When choosing to adopt a pet, the owner’s lifestyle and the pet’s requirements should be compatible. It is the owners’ duty to ensure the pet has been spayed or neutered and properly identified. It’s a commitment for a lifetime- if a situation arises that the owner can no longer provide a suitable household for the animal, it should be the owners’ priority to re-home the pet.

Here at SAWCT we always recommend adopting our indies and breed dogs in equal measure. We try to discourage people and tell them NOT to visit any breeders due to the high number of unethical practices that are followed.

It is a possibility to adopt an older dog. They are equally bright and can be trained like the pups. It is unfair of them to be abandoned because they lost their “cuteness”.

We do our best to guide pet adopters on how to make adult dogs comfortable with their households by enlisting the help of trainers or behaviorists.

Luckily, within the last year, the indie adoption percentage has gone up. We are so thankful to every individual who has created awareness and shared the right education on the various adoption scenarios.
