Lost and Found Pets

They need our assistance

Animals - Lost and Found

We often encounter lost dogs and cats on the streets—animals new to the area, searching for their families. Many of these are pets who have either escaped or run away from home and are unable to find their way back. Others have been abandoned by their families for various reasons. Pets who are missing can sometimes be reunited with their families through consistent social media posts. Pedigree breeds are typically easier to spot and identify when lost, but mixed or indie breeds, who resemble most street animals, are much harder to locate.

How Can We Help Lost/Found Animals?

WhatsApp and Facebook groups and pages come in handy when trying to locate missing pets. We have had many happy reunions thanks to social media. To avoid such missing or lost pet occurrences, we strongly recommend keeping pet dogs on leash when outside the house and keeping cats and smaller pets in secure carriers when out of the house or in the car.

Caring for Abandoned Pets or relocated Strays

Abandoned pets face immense challenges on the streets and urgently need rescue. Older or ill pets can be placed in shelters for treatment, where, if not adopted, they live out their remaining days in safety.

Stray animals that are relocated or wander far from their territory endure significant hardships. Often, they face rejection from animals and humans in the new area, encountering fights, attacks, and severe hunger. If they are found in time, volunteers may transport them back to their original territory, though this isn’t always possible.

Mixed or indie breeds, whether lost pets or relocated strays, often struggle the most. Few people step forward to adopt them, and if they have behavioural issues due to trauma, they are sometimes returned and end up back on the streets. In these cases, volunteers strive to keep them fed and safe in their new location.

Lost/Found Animals

Lhasa Pup

This Lhasa pup was found abandoned/lost near Katraj/Ambegaon. He was left in a basket. One kind lady took him home and reported the case to SAWCT. With a lot of effort, we were able to find his parents and handed him over to them after thorough verification. He was a stolen pup.

New Pup

A very friendly furry black female has been seen roaming on Sinhgad Road for the last two – to three months. Recently I saw her near my society while I was on a sterilization drive. she is now sterilized and is in foster. We just wish to see if she is a pet dog or a stray who has a feeder.

Simba

‘Simba’ has been missing since yesterday (15th Jan). Please let us know if you see her anywhere—Shruti Dimble- B 105, Shukratara Apartment, opposite P.l Deshpande Garden, Sinhagad Rd, Pune.
